If you ever accidentally deleted your Outlook e-mail, you can you usually recover this with minimal effort. What happens you do a “hard delete” - that is, accidently permanetly delete your e-mail.

When you use Shift+Delete keys in Outlook, your are using what is called “hard delete.” This results in e-mail that is not recoverable using the Outlook 2003 “Recover Deleted Items” option. With a bit of luck, these steps may help to recover these items:

NOTE: If you are not familiar with the Windows registry, you should leave these steps for someone who is.

1. First, go to Run and type regedit.
2. Locate the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Options
3. Right click on Options, click Add Value, then add the following registry value:
Value name: DumpsterAlwaysOn
Data type: DWORD
Value data: 1
4. Go to “Recover Deleted Items” option and recover your e-mail.

Outlook 2007 users should be able to recover items without having to follow the aforementioned steps:
