Google Docs Tutorial - Part 10. Learn how to insert comments into your Google Docs or Document

Another option that you can insert into your Google Docs documents is a comment. Comments are particularly useful if you are sharing your document with other users as you will learn about later in this manual. You can leave a comment for collaborators and/or ask a question about the document. You may also want to use comments in your personal document, just as a reminder to yourself. Let’s go ahead and add a comment to this document.
There is an area in the sample document where plantains are discussed. You should place the cursor in that location because this is where we will enter a comment. Open the Insert menu from the toolbar, and click on Comment – you can also use the keyboard shortcut of Ctrl+M (or Command+M on a MAC).

Notice that Google Docs gives you a direction to “type here” to indicate where you can type your comment. Try typing a comment, for example, “Should I talk more about plantains?” You can see that the comment is marked in the document including the name of the comment’s author andthe date/time of its creation.Google Docs training at SimonSezIT.com<br />

If you click on the comment, you will see a menu (pictured to the right) with some comment options. Firstly, you can Close this menu if you opened it accidentally, or you can choose to Delete comment if it is no longer relevant. Deleting the comment will remove the comment from your document but this action can be reversed with the Undo button. The Insert comment text into document command will actually convert your comment into text and insert it into your document. This means that the comment text would no longer be highlighted; it would be formatted as standard body text in your document, and clicking on it would not bring up the comment menu.

The final option available in this menu is Comment Color:. Note that the checkmark indicates the color used to highlight your comments, but you can change it to orange, pink, green, blue, or purple. As you can see above, it was changed to purple.

As you have seen, you can insert comments into your document as a reminder to yourself, or as a reminder to someone else that is sharing the document, which we will learn to do later in this manual.
