In part 1 in our 10 part Audacity tutorial, we introduce you to installing the Audacity audio recording and editing software application.

Welcome to the Audacity tutorial series. In this program, we will review everything you need to know to use Audacity. Audacity can be used for all your audio needs, and is compatible with most systems and software. So, let’s begin.

The first step is to go the right website — Its http://audacity.sourceforge.net.

If you go to audacity.com, you get this page (Audacity, Inc) which is a different company. Click on the purple highlighted Audacity link on the page, which will take you to the right page. You can download from this page or go to the Download tab, and select the right download for your operating system. Right now they have windows version 1.2, which is a trial tested stable version and the new one into working on the Beta version 1.3

So, select whichever is right for your system, and click on the blue link windows 1.3.7. Now, a new window opens with the recommended RAM/Processor speed. So, make sure that, your computer has enough RAM and the right processor to download. If it sure does, go back to the top and click on the blue Download link. In this example, we are using windows, for which should click windows 2000: Audacity 1.3.7 installer link. Once the link gets opened, click on the Download Now link.  Make sure your Pop Up Blocker is off, so that new window could be opened.

In the new window, under AVS Audio Editor, click on Download. Once the security window opens, hit on Run and the download will begin. Make sure all your other softwares are closed, as you may need to restart it. Again the new security warning window opens, asking if you want to run the software. Now, click on Run, select your “Language” and the Audio Editor Wizard comes up. You need to read through and accept the agreement. Once accepted, click on Next. Next, it asks about storing the program file. In this example, we are going with the preselected program file.  If you want to change it, click on “Browse” and select wherever you would like to save it. Save the file on the desired location and then click on Next. Now, there is a prompt, asking if you want to create a Desktop Icon. Desktop Icon acts as a shortcut to open the Audacity program. If you would like to have the Desktop Icon, leave the box checked, otherwise, leave it unchecked. Click “Next” which will confirm about the location of the file and if Desktop Icon is created. Click Install. It will take a few moments to install. Once done, leave the Launch AVS Audio Editor checkbox ticked and click Finish.

Here is your Audacity window software set up and ready to go.
