Audacity Tutorials - How to use Audacity - Part 5 - Importing
In this Audacity tutorial, we discuss how to import music from other sources into Audacity sound recorder and editor
So, start by opening Audacity. Once the new window opens, go to Project > Import Audio. For files you already have on your computer, find the file you want and double click on it. In this case, the original AIFF file is taken. Double click on it and here it is. Once again this is the guitar loop. So skip it to beginning and Play (Guitar Playing). Here we have our guitar loop.
Next we are going to import some audio from IDV. That will be a 2 step process. Plug-in the camera first, which throws a pop-up asking what you want to do. Here we are about to Capture Video and this example uses Windows Movie Maker. Now, the new window opens with the video capture wizard. Select the device, click Next and then give it a name. In this example, it is named Water. Now choose the location you want to store it. In this example, it is stored in the Desktop, but you can store it anywhere you like and then click on Next. Choose the option Best Quality and click Next. Select Capture parts of the tape manually and then click Next.
Now we are ready to begin the capture. Play to tape and click Start Capture. Record around 10seconds of it and then click on Stop Capture. Now click on Finish and the file gets imported. So, minimize this window and you could see a file named ‘Water’ on the desktop. So to reopen the window, go to Project > Import Audio and from the pop-up go to desktop and find the file ‘Water’ and double click on it. Here is the ‘Water’ file. To listen it, click on Solo, and click Play.
You go through the same steps for any device, that’s an external source. Import it as a digital file to your computer and then import it to your Audacity. That is how you import files.
