Audacity Tutorials - How to use Audacity - Part 6 - Editing
In this Audacity audio recorder and editor how to tutorial, we discuss how to edit your audacity tracks and project.
So, let’s start by opening Audacity. Once the window opens for a new project, we shall go ahead and record some audio. Click Record, and now we are recording. We are going to inner cut some of the guitar and the water effects with this audio and take out that up. We can’t Stop and here we have our audio recorded.
So, the first thing we want to do is take out that up. Just go ahead and find that and place the cursor there and press Play. When we know this is it, highlight it and click Delete, and now the audio is gone. Now, move the cursor over here by double clicking it and then click on Play and take out that up.
Next step is to take out the little pause between these two lines here. So again click on the pause, highlight the portion and hit Delete and now the pause between the lines are gone. You can also hit the shortcut tool for Cut or the Edit > Cut to delete it.
Now double click on the other pause over the other area, click on Play and take out that up. Now we see there is no gap between those two lines. Now let’s say we want to add the guitar and water effects here. Go to File > Recent Files >Acoustic Guitar loop and water. Now the new window opens and we could see Acoustic Guitar and Water. Now, click on Acoustic Guitar track and go to Edit > Select > All which will get the entire track copied. Now go to Edit > Copy and minimize this window. Come back to our new project and click on Edit > Paste. Now we have our Acoustic Guitar and Water.
Now, for the purpose of editing, let’s say we want to inner cut between these. Go to Project > New Audio Track, which goes down to the bottom. Scroll down to it. There is our new audio track which needs to be moved up. Click on Audio Track and Move Track up again. Scroll up now. Now we are here, because it’s in between the voice and the guitar. So now, let’s start by taking a part of the voice. When we click on Solo, we only hear the voice. Click on Skip to beginning and then click Play and now its recording.
We can now inner cut some of the guitar and the water effects. Select the first portion here now, say up to inner cut guitar and you can copy or cut it. In this example we are copying it (Edit > Copy). Once copied, go down to the empty space in between and select Paste and the dialogue is here now. Scoot it over just a bit, take the solo off for the first track, come down and solo the new track, click Skip to beginning and then click Play and now its getting recorded. Inner cut some of the guitar now.
Next is to name the edited track. Go to our new Audio track and name it as ‘Edited’ and click OK, so that we can identify the edited track we were going through. After this splitter dialogue, we want to add some guitar. So, come down to the guitar track, copy an equal portion, go the edited portion, click at the end of the earlier edited track and click on Paste and now we have the guitar. Again solo it here and Skip to beginning, and click Play. Now it’s recording and now we can inner cut some of the guitar.
Now we get an idea, how easy it is to edit. Go to ‘Edited’ track and click Solo and then go up to the top audio find the portion of the audio to be played next and click on Solo and then hit Play and the water effects with this audio and take that out up. Here we have the water effects line. Cut this up, copy, move down to edited track, and if you want to push that line over, you can push it a bit and then click Paste. Now we have the line and now to select the water effects, go down, take a little bit of water effects, copy it and move back to the ‘Edited’ track. Push the line a bit to the dialogue and then click Paste. Remove Solo for the Audio track and Solo the edited track, Skip to beginning and Play it through. Now it’s recording and we can inner cut some of the guitar and the water effects and here we have it.
Now we see how easy it is to edit in Audacity.
