Windows Vista introduced a new utility which can speed up your computer’s performance by utilizing your spare portable storage. Instead of using your hard drive, which is generally slower, you insert into your computer a USB drive, secure digital card (SD), CompactFlash and other portable storage. Windows Vista will use this faster storage for disk caching instead of the hard drive, which results in faster performance for Windows Vista. Different storage types will result in different results when using the Vista ReadyBoost utility, with USB generally being the slowest. Also, the less memory your computer has, the better results you have.
