Disk fragmentation occurs when your computer stores your file with gaps between other files. Let’s assume you have a Word document that you have saved to your hard drive. The most efficient way for your computer to retrieve this file is when it is stored as one continuous file. Disk fragmentation results when the file is not allocated to contiguous space. This is not an uncommon occurrence, especially when you are adding and deleting a lot of files. Running the Windows Vista Disk Defragmenter is a great way to reduce disk defragmentation, the end result being improved performance.  Our free video tutorial explains how to use the Windows Vista Disk Defragmenter.
